CFP® professionals are also held to high ethical and professional standards within the industry.  The final certification step is to satisfy a rigorous background check and agree to abide by a strict code of professional conduct (CFP Board’s Code of Ethic and Standards of Conduct).  This reinforces that they are committed to always providing financial advice with their client’s best interests first and foremost.  Not all financial planners make that commitment.
